If you like Hawaiian slack key guitar and or mellow vocals, you need
to check out the series of live performance anthologies put out by
Daniel Ho Productions. Volume IV, 'The Spirit of Hawaiian Slack Key
Guitar', is out now and is as good as it gets. Living legends like
George Kahumoku Jr, Dennis Kamakahi, Sonny Lim and female triple
threat Owana Salazar appear - and of course, nothing says 'Hawaii'
more than Bobby Ingano, who gives a great rendition of Sol Ho'oppi's
'Moana Chimes'. Guest artists and jamming abound: how about harmonica
ace Norton Buffalo dueting with George Kahumoku Jr? The liner notes
give us the scoop on the various tunings: in case you ever wondered,
there are many different slack key tunings. This is one big reason so
many acoustic guitarists in Hawaii can sound so different from each
other. Some tunes feature as many as four performers. A fave for me is
'La Cancion de Los Panilos', a tribute to the Mexican cowboys who
brought the guitar tradition to Hawaii featuring guitars, ukulele, and
steel guitar. Sweet.

exotic instruments such as the hurdy gurdy, udu, sitar, tablas, and

Vocalist and songwriter Ann Hampton Callaway presents At Last, a music
CD collection of "love songs for grownups". Performances of beloved
jazz standards and pop culture songs as well as a few original tunes
