Koko Dozo is a trio of legally alienated New Yorkers -- Polarity/1,
Amy Douglas and Rubio -- who create a sound they call Global
Funktronica: a unique blend of electron- ica, funk, club grooves, jazz
and roots grooves from Brazil, Latin America and Africa. Their lyrics
are hilarious, provocative, and powerful, sung in English, Spanish and
Portuguese, supported by music that is truly otherworldly, rich,
textural and extremely funky.
Nacotheque has become the hottest and newest "go to" event here in
NYC. Created by by DJ superstars Amylu Meneses and Marcello Cunning
and dubbed "The Latin Misshapes" by the press, their bimonthly parties
held at popular Lower East Side venue, Fontanas, are packed to
capacity and their success has extended throughout Latin America and
Europe, where they have held Nacotheque events that have brought them
great success and world attention.
Meneses and Cunning were the first to introduce Koko Dozo to the world
when they added the band's "Boomchi" to their sets -- before their
album was completed and before they've appeared in front of an
audience! The song was such an immediate hit that not only did they
include the song on their most recent compilation, Nacotheque 7.0, but
they offered Koko Dozo an event to launch their album and a stage for
their performance debut.
