Yes, another sad ending to a mostly tragic young life. I read today
that he admitted smoking pot for the first time when he was making
"The Lost Boys". He then did cocaine for about a year and a half,
which led to crack. He went into rehab, then relapse. He relapsed many
times over the years and acknowledged that he ruined his own life and
career.
Last I read, he was working on a couple projects, which apparently he
was working on when he took ill.
I saw him for the first time in "Firstborn" and then "Silver Bullet".
My favorite of his early movies was "Murphy's Romance" though he had
more of a supporting role, he was extraordinarily cute and a great fit
for the story. Of course, I loved him in "The Lost Boys" as well.
After that, his career seemed to nosedive, and never did seem to
recover.
He will indeed by missed. Perhaps now he can finally be free and at
peace.
