Good start. LOL
I will add fort specific stuff and end with a copy of a friends post
about the subject I reposted before.
Here in the fort and other related groups we have two kinds of trolls.
The first kind are not like we are (outsiders) who only post here (and
crosspost to many groups at a time) to pick on us because we are
different and they need to act like bullies and make us victims. The
second kind are part time trolls and are actually people like us who
get worked up over something and go too far and attack on topic posters
while sometimes posting on topic things themselves at the same time
with the same posting name or other names. Some people of our kind are
just bullies and act like real trolls for the "fun" of it sometimes.
There are some bad fruits on every tree at least part of the time.

Some of the people who post in these newsgroups are as you say. Some
are not. The newsgroup system (Usenet) is open to everyone with an
internet connection. This includes people who are like you, people who
are different from you, people who will give you love, and people who
will give you hate. What is here is just like real life, but instead of
kisses and fists, we have only text with which to express our feelings,
be they noble or ignoble.
While even the best of us can sometimes express anger, there are people
here who specialize in doing that. Because they can post anything they
want, without fear of being found out and punished for it, those who
hate us feel free to do whatever they can to cause us what harm they
can do to us and our society. They are called Trolls, who's sole
purpose is to disrupt, cause arguments, hurt reputations, and any other
nasty things they can do. They try to impersonate other posters. They

appear to be nice, while hiding bad messages in their words. They want
us to die, and will do whatever they can do try to make that happen.
How do we deal with Trolls? Don't. Except for warning people about the
impersonations they try to do, and maybe correct some of their lies for
the new people, the best way to deal with them is to ignore them. Some
people say that they do what they do just for the attention. That is
only a very small part of it. They have a mission to destroy us. But we
don't have to let that happen.
How do we win? By not losing.
Actually, by not losing ourselves. If we feel and express love, and not
anger or hate, if we don't let them change who we are, then they can
only be a minor nuisance to us, and even a source of amusement at their
clumsy antics.
A reminder:
WE are our worst enemy, if we let them change us into being like them.
But we don't have to. They give us hate. Responding with hate, will
change us to be more like them. We give them love, we reenforce who we
are, and irritate the heck out of them. What better reasons could we
have for being nice? :-)
