Thanks Dateline NBC and Perverted Justice!!
Five Petaluma police detectives were honored this week for their team
effort in designing and carrying out a sexual predator sting operation
in August.
Twenty-nine men from the Bay Area and beyond were arrested after they
went to a Petaluma residence where they expected to have sex with an
underage girl they conversed with on the Internet. They were met by a
Dateline NBC staff member instead and arrested by police.
Detectives Michael Pierre, Steve Nelson, Robert Barnes and Paul Gilman
and Detective Sgt. Matt Stapleton received awards for outstanding
teamwork in carrying out a law enforcement action.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department, Santa Rosa Police Department,
California Bureau of Investigation and the Sonoma County district
attorney's office were also mentioned for lending considerable support
to the operation.
Officers and deputies from the California Highway Patrol, Contra Costa
County Sheriff's Office and the Palo Alto Police Department also were
honored for accomplishments ranging from acts of bravery to excellence
in field work.
The Law Enforcement Appreciation event was held Thursday at the Crowne
Plaza Hotel in Foster City. The annual event by the San Francisco Bay
Area Chapter of the American Society for Industrial Security honors
law enforcement officers who distinguish themselves through exemplary
service and devotion to duty and is also held to pay respect to Bay
Area peace officers who died in the line of duty during the past year.
