Solomon's Private File #281
These stories about Stephen and Solomon take place starting in
1950's. Stephen wrote about his life in letters to a penpal, and then
in a secure blog, in case he lost his memory again, in the master
computer in his school for gifted students, which he started attending
in 2016 in a new incarnation, until his death. Now his son Solomon is
attending the same school, and is writing in his own secure blog for
his future incarnations.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Solomon is 28 in this story, in the Summer of 2054.
Solomon's Private File #281 "Paternity"

I said to the Judge, "No. I refuse to do that." He said, "On what
grounds?" I said, "On the grounds that it can't be proved that it's my
DNA, for one big reason. I can and do make any DNA I want to, for the
body I need to use at that time." He said, "Can you prove that?" I
said, "Easily, but because no standards exist for that, you would need
to set precedent to accept it." He said, "Thank you for your advice.
How would you prove it?" I said, "I hardly ever port now. I just create
a body to be where I want one of my presences to be, and that includes
off-planet environments that a human body couldn't exist in. Even on
Earth, I've used some odd bodies. I was a talking tree, once. Talk
about going out on a limb!" Chuckles. He said, "Proceed." I made
multiple bodies of different kinds appear, and we all said together,
"We are all me, or I am all them. No images here, but real bodies,
including the different DNA." He said, "Fertile?" I said, "If I want
them to be, yes, but only then. I never cause any pregnancy by
accident, only by intent. An extra bit of info. I'm monitored. My wife
and mother, mostly. And Hawk, for the humor. My mother lives with us,
and I always have my presence there. My children are REALLY familiar
with me. I have not yet had to heal myself there. I think you get my
meaning." He said, "I do. They would testify?" I said, "If required to,
but who demands that of my mother might not be fully happy about it."
He looked very concerned about that.
I said, "There is another issue. There IS a father, obviously. I know
who it is." He said, "How do you know that?" I said, "I know what God
knows, for all this world. It's not looking or snooping. It's all in my
mind, without any effort on my part. And what I know, I can make
recordings of, for people." He said, "If I order you to tell the Court
who the father is?" I said, "I would have to claim Clerical Privilege.
I was given this ability directly from God, to do His work, within HIS
rules, which might not always be the same as the rules of Mankind.
Consider it as equal to a world wide Confessional." He said, "But the
people in question have not accepted you as their religious counsel." I
said with a grin, "That's true." He said, "Would you accept them?" I
said, "Not if they have committed a crime, where they would use me to
avoid proper justice, and if that were not the case, I would still
require that they make right the sin." He said, "Would false testimony
before this court, constitute one of the aforementioned conditions that
would prevent you from accepting them?" I said, "It would, if I'm
involved in it in any way. I think her lawyer wants to have a talk with
her." He said, "I see that." There was a recess.
Back from the recess, her lawyer said, "We withdraw the complaint." I
was asked to comment. I said, "Unfortunately, the complaint still
exists in history. My reputation is damaged. And there is a possibility
of a criminal proceeding, coming from this. I request that it not
happen, and will not countersue, if you tell me why you did this." He
said, "You would agree not to come after my client?" I said, "Sir, I
said what I said. Do not ever doubt me! It is NOT I who have lied
here!" He almost fainted. He whispered to his client. She said, "I did
it for money." I said, "But I don't have any. I never have. I don't
need it." She said, "I don't believe you. Anyway, you can make it." I
said, "And that's why I don't need it. I can make what money would buy.
But making money is the business of the government. Counterfeiting is
seriously against the law. Requiring that of me, to commit such a
crime, is also against the law, even if I never did it. It's called
conspiracy. And in exchange for not dragging me to court, it would be
extortion, another serious crime. Didn't your lawyer tell you all
this?" She said, "No." I said, "Another lie. He is indicating that he
did. You are very fortunate that I'm not asking for legal action
against you. You would be in prison for a long time, and your baby
would have been taken away from you."
I said, "Why isn't Manuel supporting you?" She said, "That worthless
pile of shit? No on your life!" I said, "He wanted to, and his mother
would have helped. Why didn't you accept that?" She said, "I just used
him to get to you." I said, "Are you aware that this isn't a closed
Court, that all this could go public? What would people think of you,
for what you've done?" She said, "I don't care!" I said, "I think you
might, pretty soon. Do you consider yourself to be a good person?" She
said, "I don't have to answer that!" I said, "Do you think you will be
a good mother?" Silence. I said, "What will your daughter think of you,
knowing about this?" She went all out in her verbal attack on me. Then
she came at me. I put her to sleep, and said, "It's alright. Self
defense. She's asleep. Baby is alright. For now. For your information,
this isn't the only situation like this." The Judge said, "Do you plan
to use what has happened here, in other cases?" I said, "It's possible.
Depends on individual circumstances. I do plan to make this public, so
others might decide not to do this. I dislike people tying up the
courts with false accusations about me." He said, "I can appreciate
that. When you leave, will you take the other er, things with you?" We
all grinned, and said, "Yes." He adjourned the Court. I woke the woman
up, and shifted all of me out.
I asked to meet with Manuel and his mother. I showed them the case. I
said, "If you want to seek full custody, I offer my help in that. You
have good legal grounds for it, because of what she admitted to me in
court." He said, "I'm having a daughter! Mine! Yes, please!" His mother
said, "I'll help." I said, "Manuel, I have some personal advice to give
you. We can do it in another room, if you like." He said, "It's
alright. Mom can hear it." I said with a smile, "You know she's going
to agree with me." She said, "Darn right I am!" Chuckles.
I said to him, "Careful where you put that thing! It's NOT a toy!
Using it where you shouldn't, doesn't make you more of a man, but less,
and that's not counting the consequences. Bringing a new life into the
word is an awesome responsibility. It's the one time in our lives that
we do something like what God does, in creating a life. A real person.
The most important responsibility there is, is being a parent. Often
the most difficult, but also the most rewarding. Don't er, screw that
up again! Create a future you would want your daughter to live in. It
will take work, but it's worth every bit of it. Don't promise me
anything. What you do is what counts. Make your mother, AND your
daughter, proud of you. You can! No excuses."
He said, "Thank you. She said she was on the pill." I said, "No
contraception is perfect, and people sometimes lie. Both men and women
should take that responsibility for themselves. Yes, sex is fun, but
it's for much more than that, too. It's for love, and it's for having
children. The fun part is extra, to help that along. Do it just for
fun, you risk bad things, as you've discovered. You know what I mean,
and did even before this. You're not a kid anymore. Now you have to
grow up and be responsible. Your daughter needs that from you." He
said, "Yes sir!" I said, "I'm going to put what happened in court, on
TV. I'm telling you ahead of time, as a courtesy." His mom said, "Would
"I want you to. It could help other people. What you said is RIGHT!" We
looked at Manuel. He was embarrassed, but he said, "Yes. I agree. If it
would help, you should do it." I said, "That's what a good and real MAN
would say." We hugged with love.
I said to CNN, "An action for broadcast." He read the crystal, and
said, "Wow! Not like any other!" I said, "It doesn't need my comments.
I put enough of them in the action." He grinned, and said, "You sure
did. That thing is not a toy! Wow!" I was still asked to be on the
show, so I did, to see what they would do with it. Mary ran the
recording of the action in the court, then we went to break. Then the
home counseling. She was smiling, when that finished, and said, "I
think a lot of people are going to remember some of the things you
said, for a long time." I said, "Well, I don't say them just to be
forgotten." She said, "Do you say things in your actions that are
specifically for broadcast?" I said, "I don't do that. I'm in the
action, and do and say what I should do at that time. But I do have to
admit that I know a lot of it will be broadcast, but that doesn't
influence me then. And even if something doesn't go public, it will go
into our archives, and be used for training. My monitors would do that,
if I didn't, but they usually use what I give them, having had more
practice in videography, which is helped by the fact that I know what
I'm doing before they do, so I can have the camera angles just right
for that." she said, "And you're great at that." I said, "Er, thanks."
She said, "You seem very concerned about not doing something
illegal." I said, "Yes, and for reasons I've already said on these
shows. Religions would be very upset if I were arrested, if the police
could bring themselves to do it. I really don't want to cause that."
She said, "Ambassadors have diplomatic immunity. You're more important
than any of them, and you don't have that. It's not fair." I said, "But
it IS fair. They have that protection for diplomatic reasons, as
representatives of the heads of state of other countries. That's to
prevent unfair prosecution in times of crisis, and is part of
international law. I don't represent any country, so I shouldn't have
that." She said, "But you represent our world to the galaxy, don't
you?" I said, "I do in a way, but my mother is our official
representative to the Galactic Council. But that protection doesn't
apply in the country you represent, and it's only for criminal things.
Private legal issues are more complicated." She said, "But you
represent God to us." I said, "We can't use that, or all the other
people who do that will go after the same protection. Would ruin a lot
of law suits for past actions against some children." She said, "Oh.
Still not fair. You can't lie. You REALLY speak for God. That should
count for something in legal matters." I said, "It doesn't, and more
talk about it isn't going to help."
She said, "Oh. Alright. There is an important statement in the trial
part of the action. You don't cause unintended pregnancies." I said,
"None of my group do, but I can manage that a little better." She said,
"Do they use contraceptives?" I said with a smile, "Wouldn't that be
something private to them?" She said, "Oh. I apologize." I said, "But I
can say that none of my group use any drugs for anything, and if they
don't want to have children, they just don't have sex when a pregnancy
can happen. We always know, because we can SEE it, and the conditions
that cause it. We consider going all way in sex to be a very serious
matter, and we do NOT do it without real full love. We just aren't
capable of doing that without love." She said, "Oh. A good example for
all." I said, "Er, not exactly. We don't plan to actually show people
chuckle. We went to break. I said, "You know some people watch to see
me play with the hosts." She said, "I do. I thought I was being
careful." I said, "Won't work." Nods.
Back on air, she said, "You have children. Have you started any,
since you became er, as you are now?" I said, "None have been born
since my er, transformation. But when my wife wants to have more, which
is her decision as the mother, I'll very gladly help it to happen." She
said, "Something just occurred to me. Can you make a female body?" I
grinned, and she hurriedly said, "For one of your presences." I said,
"I have, yes. And before you ask, yes it could reproduce, if I had
enabled it. It wouldn't work with my wife, though. Oh, I see a
question. Do you have the courage to voice it?" She said, "How did you
know?" I said, "I know people better than anybody in history, and I can
read face and body language just as well, and I can think very well,
and I know what a lot of people would ask in your place."
She said, "Oh. Reasonable. When you are a woman, would you have sex
with your wife?" I said, "Lesbian sex? You know, I never thought of
that. But if she wanted to, yes I would. Anything for her. Hmm, she's
saying she likes me best as who I am. Well, we mean by how my body was
when it was my only one. We grew up together. She's used to it. I see
another question. After we were married." She said, "Oh. Was it a
strain?" I said, "I have her permission to discuss it. I wanted to wait
until marriage. She wasn't so sure about it. Well, she didn't have my
past lives, and the experience that had given me. When she was 15, and
I was 16, she decided we should do it. Among us, the woman rules in
matters of sex. So we used an apartment in the city on Allguard, and
she changed her mind at the last minute, realizing that she didn't
really need to do it then, and that we should save that special first
time, for the most special time, which was our wedding night. That's
when I discovered how loud she can be. Er, oops!" She laughed.
She said, "Are there lesbians in your group?" I said, "We have people
of different nationalities, ethnic groups, religions, races, genders,
and sexual orientations, in our group, so yes, we have some lesbians,
gays, and bisexuals. No transgenders, though. Not that we would exclude
them. Had an alien from another dimension with us. He's back there with
said, "Did he marry anybody of your group?" I said, "I don't have his
permission to discuss his private life, and I'm not going to ask for no
good reason." She said, "Oh. Thank you Solomon for sharing your time
with us." I said, "You're welcome." We were off the air.
I said, "All you're interested in is sex? Oh, your people are not
quiet about that." She ripped the earpiece out, and said, "So I
noticed. I probably deserved that. I think I went a little too far." I
said, "You were edging up to it, and did, with the last one. There are
comments coming in. In addressing the comments about me doing lesbian
sex with my wife, you can use this; men, if you had a wife like mine,
and loved her as much as I love mine, you would do absolutely anything
she wanted you to do in bed, believe me." Control room said, "Good, and
going out. Thanks." I said, "Least I can do. Doing a lot more with her,
though. Yes, now, actually. Oh, you're embarrassed. Tough!" Chuckles.
We hugged, and I shifted out.
A lot of the other paternity suits suddenly withdrew, and more
probably will in time. One judge wanted to put me in jail for contempt,
when I said I couldn't pay the fine. I said, "Your Honor, do you really
think that's a good thing? Will it stand up on review, now that I'm a
real lawyer, and really know the law regarding this?" He said, "Oh." I
said, "And putting one of my presences in jail, won't affect any of my
other presences in any way. But it might cause some other people to be
a little less than charitable toward you, that doesn't really need to
happen over this." He said, "Are you threatening me?" I said, "Not at
all. I'm just trying to explain reality to you. You're a Catholic. Want
my friend the Pope to discuss it with you? Do you need to be instructed
on the sin of pride, and the abuse of power, by the Holy See?" His eyes
opened wide, and he realized he had REALLY bitten off more than he
could chew. He said, "The charge of Contempt is rescinded. This session
is adjourned." He left in a hurry. I was heard to say, "I didn't know
he could move that fast." Some suppressed chuckles.
I put that in Paolo's cross, and with a hard copy note. He said to
me, holding the star, "You used me. Do it again when you think you
should. No, it's not just for you. It makes me and my Church more
relevant. I have to like that." I sent him some love.
