Stephen's Secure Blog #251
These stories about Stephen began was when he was 10 years old, and
moving to a new part of the country to attend a special school for
gifted students, in the 1950's. This was from a time before computers
would fit on a desk, and when people communicated with friends in other
countries by actual letters sent through the postal service. He wrote
225 of them to a friend. He stopped writing to his penpal, but found he
still wanted to record his life, in case he lost his memory again, and
wrote 30 entries in his first logbook. Then he wrote to an artificial
intelligence called Geenee, in the master computer in his school for
gifted students, which he started attending in 2016. Now it's after
2018, and he's continuing to save his memories in a secure blog.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stephen is 16 in this story, in the Winter holidays of year 7 of his
special school.
Stephen's Secure Blog #251 "Business in Trouble"
START Page
Hawk brought the big, break-me-in-half, guy to me, and we sat. I
said, "If you say things, make it the truth. I will know instantly if
you lie." He said in awe, "I wouldn't be surprised. I own a big
construction business. I started it myself, and built it up from
nothing. In what I do, we have to deal with the mob. If we don't hire
some of them on paper, and pay them for not working, we have accidents.
Well, they went too far with that on one of our government contracts,
and the feds are investigating me. And I think there might be a
contract out on me from the mob, too. I run a clean business, and I
don't think I've broken any laws. I'm fighting this, but there have
been some really strange things happening, and some of that looks like
I'm involved. I swear I'm not! My parents were immigrants. I love this
country for giving them, and me, a chance for a free and successful
life! I would NEVER do anything to harm it. Never!" I said "I believe
you." He let out a big sigh of relief.
I said "I will help you, but there are some things you have to
understand about that, first. I'm a little unusual in personal things
and in abilities. So are some of my associates." He said "You don't
have to tell ME that!" I said with a grin, "Yes I do. What you know
now, is a thousandth of all I can do. I and my people have connections
in some unusual places. I'll be using them, but you must keep all this
a secret. Before you agree to that, I should tell you that we do not
lie, or support lies. We do not act against others unjustly, or support
such actions. We do not punish. We not only do not do those things, we
can't. We are not able to. So, do you agree to let us help you, and
keep what we do, and who we are, a secret?" He said, in awe again, "I
do agree!"
I said "I've just examined your books. Somebody has been cooking
them, very skillfully. Stop! If you interfere with what we are doing
for you, we will leave you hanging. Do NOT let your break-you-in-half
temper make things worse." He subsided, a little embarrassed. I grinned
and said, "We are ALL going to remember that one!" We could hear Hawk
laughing. He said "How does he hear that?" I said "My team and I are
linked mentally, when we want to be." He tried to say oh. I said "Did
you know a private detective firm was tailing you?" He said "I didn't
know. I don't know why they would. The mob would use their own people."
I said "Maybe not, for coming into this high class setting." He said "I
see what you mean." I said "We are watching their operative. She hasn't
yet reported that I blew her cover, after a member of the State
Department wanted to have a private word with me, which I denied. I
told you we have connections. One of us contacted her boss, who called
her and told her to lay off me in public. We are watching the PI's boss
to see who hired him. And when we watch, I mean WATCH. Tomorrow, I'm
going to tell the feds to lay off you, and work the sabotage of you
angle." He said "You can do THAT, and make it stick?" I said "When I
tell them I examined you, and found you innocent, yes. We do that for
their people, too." He said "Wow!" I said "I hear that a lot." He said
"THAT doesn't surprise me. I really lucked out finding you. I can't
thank you enough for this!" I said "Then don't. I'm doing this because
I uphold real justice, not because of the break me in half thing." We
laughed.
I said "With the mob and PI angle, I think you might be in some
personal danger. Your home is empty. Have you moved your family away?"
He said "I did." I said "We'll put a watch on them, just as a
precaution, if you agree to it. Nobody will detect that." He said "I
agree! Thanks. I don't need that for myself. I can take care of
business." I said "What if they hire a stupid thug to mess you up, and
you mess HIM up, and bought witnesses say you attacked him for no
reason?" His jaw dropped open in surprise. Then he said, "I didn't
think of that! I see what you mean. I accept protection." I said "Our
protection is more involved than you might like. If you lose your
temper and try to do something stupid, we will stop you, and maybe not
in a fun way. Got that?" He had a flash of anger, and then laughed, and
said, "Got it. What can you do for that?" I said "Try to move." He
couldn't. I released him, and he relaxed, and said in awe, "THAT will
work!" I said "I can do a lot more. I don't know what that will be,
until I find out who's really after you, and why. Just stopping them
isn't good enough. Not with the feds involved. The investigation has to
be concluded, or you will never get another good contract again." He
I told you, you will doubt my sanity." He said "I already doubt mine,
after what I've experienced with you. Please."
I said "I don't believe in religions, but I have no choice about
being a Buddhist. Much of what is taught in that religion is true.
Reincarnation, for instance. I remember mine with total recall, going
back 74,000 years. Much of my Adept abilities were developed with
training from Buddhist Adepts and teachings, which I have improved with
science and a 1600 IQ. All those lives have given me a LOT of
experience in a whole lot of areas, including just the things were are
dealing with here. Alright, you can say it." He said "Wow!" I said
"Feeling better now?" He was surprised, and said, "I just realized it,
I am!" I said "I have doctorates in psychology, in this and my last
life." I stood, and so did he. I said "Two more things. Don't go trying
to hook up with a woman while we are working on this. We refuse to
watch that to protect you from a knife wielding nympho." He looked
really funny, and said, "I'll remember that." I said "We will respect
your privacy as much as possible. We are not perverts. At least not
that kind." He laughed. I said "But, we will be paying strict attention
to sound. Whatever you say which has my name in it, will get my
attention immediately, and I will be there with my mind, raring to go,
any time of the day or night, wherever I am in the galaxy." He said "I
believe that. Tell me, could you really have crushed my hand to a
bloody screaming pulp?"
I reached behind me, and picked up from the floor a steel bar, and
said, "Bend this." He took off his suit jacket, and set himself, and
tried his hardest to bend it. No change. He gave it to me. I made my
shirt-jacket vanish, and built up my muscles. Then I grabbed the bar,
and with a big silent scream of Ki, I bent it almost in half. I gave it
to him to examine, saying. "Careful of the middle. It might be hot from
the bend. No, I didn't use any special powers. That would have been
dishonest and unfair." He just stared at it. When my muscles were
mostly back to normal, I ported my top back on me. He said "The shirt?"
I said "Absolutely a special power. I can do that with almost anything,
including entire planets." He was in shock, but still said, "Anything?"
I said "I haven't tried it with a sun. Might go nova. I don't want to
risk that. Fusion systems can be a little tricky." He said "Sure." I
said with a grin, "Really?" he said "I don't know."
I said "I suggest you get on home, before you overload with new
strange information. Oh, I hope you didn't buy anything here today." He
was totally surprised, and said, "Why?" I said "We don't know how much
trouble you're in, and what it will cost you in the long run, to work
out of it. You shouldn't be wasting money on nonessential things, until
this is all over." He dripped tears, and said, "You really care. Thank
you. I did make a purchase." I said "We'll hold it for you, for later."
I held out my arms, and he came into them, and I gave him all my love.
Hawk came in and helped him out the door. When he was done, he came
back in, and said, "I really don't like what they're doing to him.
There is a lot more to this than just business. I want to work this
one." I said "Sure. Let me know when you need my presence for anything.
Please keep me informed, or my curiosity might cause some itching in
strange places." We laughed. Later that night, we took care of some of
those strange places, very well.
