The Fort isn't what it used to be and it never will be again. But
that's not important. Those who were here in the past remember what
happened and what didn't happen. To those who came after, it probably
doesn't matter what happened before and no amount of blithering
revisionism will make a bit of difference.
The past doesn't matter. We had fun. We had wars. We did some good
things and shared a lot. All good, but unimportant nowadays.
What matters now is what we do from here forward. Sharing brings us
together and community keeps us together. I haven't been here in The
Fort as much as I have in the past. Sometimes my mere presence is
divisive (much of that was probably my fault) and I seem to be a sort
of catnip that brings the worst out in kittens sometimes. I have
preferred the quiet solitude of the Galleries. Visit when you have the
time. But The Fort is our Mothership and has been for 15 years (you
know we had our birthday on Sunday) and our mission is not
accomplished.
I don't know how many boys there are here, a few I would guess. They
have found us before and we have helped them. All of us who are here
now care about boys. Some of us love boys and are confused and
frightened by this knowledge. I was like that when I ventured here 14
years ago. I found people who helped me figure out being a boylover,
what that meant and and helped me decide what I was going to do about
it.
I have paid their knowledge and brotherhood forward and I will do it
again. I have decided to take a more active role. Maybe with your help
we can bring some of the old Fort magic back. I know we can with guys
like Cosmos, BD, Chad, VV, Grant and others who have been active here.
If you find your way here and need to talk, I am here, others are too.
I will be bringing up topics of conversation and I hope you will join
in the discussions.
It's true, although it will pain one person (who pretends to be 20
people) to see me type it out, I am the 'Keeper of the Flame' which
was passed down from Tommy, the Founder of the Fort to Invisible and
The Wiz and to Mephi and back the the Wiz when Mephi died and finally
to me. I keep the famed spiral notebook with the list of Fort Badges
in it. So, if anyone wants a Fort Badge, all you have to do is ask.
For what it's worth, I'm back.
