Stephen's Secure Blog #50
These stories about Stephen began was when he was 10 years old, and
moving to a new part of the country to attend a special school for
gifted students, in the 1950's. This was from a time before computers
would fit on a desk, and when people communicated with friends in other
countries by actual letters sent through the postal service. He wrote
225 of them to a friend. He stopped writing to his penpal, but found he
still wanted to record his life, in case he lost his memory again, and
wrote 30 entries in his first logbook. Then he wrote to an artificial
intelligence called Geenee, in the master computer in his school for
gifted students, which he started attending in 2016. Now it's 2018 and
later, and he's continuing to save his memories in a secure blog.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stephen is 13 in this story, in the Spring of year 3 of his special
school.

It was time to go to the mining office. This time Ichi and I took
Rose, because she was accomplished enough, and I wanted her to have as
much alien contact as possible. I pushed at her all my previous
contacts, one at a time, before we left. She said "Wow!" a lot, while
she was studying them. Then she said, "I noticed something right away,
and looked for it in all your encounters. It's about you. The
impossible way you managed the situations. It's not to hard to see why
you did things, afterwards, and after it's explained, but doing it as
it happens takes some awesome intelligence. Really BIG thinking. That's
what amazes me the most." Ichi looked at her in admiration and said,
"You caught it. Not many would have, even among us. It's his Situation
Manager talent, and that he's about ten times as intelligent as the
best of the rest of us, doesn't hurt his effectiveness." I said "If you
want to embarrass me, you can stay homely. Er, home." Rose said,
said to me, "Seriously, it's an important part of teaching. If you want
us to learn, you have to let us know how you do it." I said, while
poking him in the chest, "But I don't have to like it." He rubbed his
chest like it hurt. I said "I see your point, just like you felt mine
there. Both of you please keep it to yourselves. You are almost correct
about the intelligence. Eight times, not ten. At least when my third
eye opened all the way last year. It might be different now. I think it
happened because of the strange way I reincarnated this time. But I was
still like this in my last incarnation after my brain injury, and I was
only a little smarter than you then. Anyway, please remember I don't
like to be reminded of how different I am." They hugged and kissed me.
At the mining station, I radioed a greeting, and asked for their ex
pirate to be there, and was told he was on his way. We waited till he
was almost there, before we went inside. Rose already had her disguise
on, with changes to indicate an individual, and her different gender,
with her assistance. I said "There have been no murders and/or other
major crimes here since our last visit?" He said "None, and while that
isn't as exciting, we prefer it that way." I said "Good. There is an
old curse in a faraway land which is, 'May you live in interesting
times'." He said "A strange curse." I said, "In that land, for
thousands of years, there were many interesting times, all accompanied
by rivers of blood." He said "Now I understand. I think I'll stay
here." I said "At least you can choose. Not all can. How well did the
processing go?" He grinned and said, "Very well! I did take some of
your money to give to the abused employees and their families. I took
your offer as more than a suggestion, which I think you intended, from
what I know about your principles and feelings." I bowed and said,
"Thank you for your understanding."
I said "How is your ex pirate doing?" He said "Your instruments
haven't told you?" I waited, and he was forced to say, "Not well, but
through no fault of his own. The other men resent him, and put some
blame on him for what happened to their friends, even though those who
were killed didn't actually have any friends here. They have treated
him badly, when they thought they could do that beneath my notice, but
he has never complained, or retaliated." I said "We will take him." He
said "Good. I think you knew what would happen to him here, and had
reasons for letting it happen. I thought you would take him now. People
like you who can do the humor you do, never stop thinking, and thinking
well." Ichi said, "You think well, yourself." He said "Thank you. That
means a lot coming from you."
I said "Do you want the coordinates to the next astroid?" He grinned
and said, "It was a strain not to appear too eager. Yes!" We smiled. I
gave them to him, with the other information, and he was really
surprised. He said
"5 times bigger! Better quality, too!" Ichi said "We prefer to do
things well." The boss laughed and said, "I owe my life to that." We
bowed. I said "We have no more astroid finds at the moment. We didn't
look beyond the three. If we find time to look for more, we will let
you know. I think, even without our continuing contributions, your
business will prosper and grow, because you have proved to your
competitors and clients that you can work hard and take care of
yourself and your people." He said "I think so, too, but I wish I could
have taken care of them better." I said "There are always opportunities
for improvement. Your persecuted employee is approaching." He said "Is
that really due to instruments?" I said "We do have them. Would you
like to see one in action?" He sat up a little higher and said, "The
unexpected? Yes!" I shot a red tracer light from my laser ring. I said
"At higher power, it can cut through this metal wall." He said "A
weapon!" I said, "It was designed as a prospecting tool. You notice we
all wear one." He said "The other ring?" I said "Pusher and tractor
rays. The belt has a personal shield and gravity controls. All
instruments for exploration."
While he was digesting that, the green scaly alien came in. I said to
him, "We have discovered some other life opportunities for you. We
offer to discuss them with you, and transport you to them, if you are
interested." He said "I am interested. Please." We started to give our
farewells, when the boss said, "How can I contact you?" I said "The
owner of the account you send the payment to, can help you with that,
if you need to contact us. I think you would have tried that, if you
had needed to, even if I hadn't told you." He laughed again, and said,
"Nothing escapes you!" Rose said, "Would it want to?" He laughed his
agreement. We bowed and left.
We ported the ship to just outside the system. In the lounge, we had
a discussion. I said to the alien, in his native language, "Please tell
us how you usually ask your friends to address you. He said "I am
Hahchet to my friends." I said "I am Stephen, and this is Rose, and
this is Ichi. You have noticed there is something strange about us.
Please describe it. Don't be concerned about possible insults, or
whether we will believe you or not. Just like you, we know when people
are lying." He said "You are not as you appear to my eyes." I said
"Correct. More?" He said "I didn't know how to describe it. I feel your
feelings better than I feel the feelings of others." I said "You have
described it well, and it is so, and we can tell you why. It is not
your imagination. You do have some actual abilities of mind which are
not common, and potential for more. Would you like to see us as we are?
You might not like it. Your former most recent boss would think we are
very ugly." He said, "I would see." We all turned off our disguises. I
said to Ichi, "Well, he hasn't fainted yet." Rose said, "Nor is he
tearing his eyes out." I said "True. Well, Hahchet, should we cover up
again, or leave it as we are now?" He said "As you are now, please. I
value truth." I said "As do we. So, now to business. There is something
we can do for you now, which can improve your physical and mental
health a little, and possibly increase your control over your special
abilities. It will cause no harm, and has been done to us many times.
If you allow it, you will be better able to make the decisions you will
need to do, which will significantly affect the rest of your life." He
said "Please. I know you speak the truth."
Ichi asked him to lie down, and I ran my hands in the air over his
body, aligning his chakras, with the knowledge I had gained from
studying his people on his home planet. When I got to his head, as I
expected, his third eye opened all the way. I said to him, "Who here
has the strongest lights?" He said in surprise and awe, "You do." I
said "They are of the spirit, and the different colors mean things, as
does their quality. May I examine your mind and brain for health and
talents?" He said "Please do." I said "Rose, Ichi, connect to me to
watch." I did the inventory. He had the basic abilities, of average
strengths, and some precognition, and about a 164 IQ, and I showed them
how to find them in his alien brain. I told him what his abilities
were, and that they would improve on their own and with training, and
new and different ones might develop. I asked him if he had any
questions. He said "Will you train me?" I said "We operate on a
Restricted World. We look like the inhabitants, and so can live with
them. You must not. It would be like a prison to you, if you stayed
with us. There are other options. Your home planet has some people who
have the same abilities that you do, and SHOULD want to help you learn
about them. We think that is your best option. Another option is a
teacher on the main planet of the system in which you just left. He
would accept you as a student, if the people on your home planet don't
want to, or can't teach you. Will you allow us to take you to your own
people?" He said "That does look like the best choice, but what if they
can't or won't teach me. How can I contact you?"
I grinned and said, "I am pleased you thought to ask that. Here is a
device which you can use to contact us. It will allow you to contact
our communications center. Ask in the GC language for Stephen, or Ichi,
or Rose. This works in real time across any distance, but only connects
to the other one which it is pared to, which I have right here, and
will be giving to our comm center. It only works for people who have
the kinds of abilities you do. It can't be tampered with or examined by
scientific means, or run out of power. One important thing. It is a
secret. Do you agree to that?" He said "I do." Then he said with a
grin, "I know not to ask how it works." We grinned back, and I said,
"We appreciate that. Do you have any possessions at your old job, or
previous places, you would like to have with you? It will take us no
effort to retrieve them." He said, "Only some clothes where I was just
working." I said, "They are behind you. We are ready to send you to
your planet. Yes, we only use ships for show. That's a secret, too. The
Adepts you will be arriving near, will notice your bright aura show up
in their inner vision like a small nova. That should get their
attention." He said "I like that." We all grinned. We stood, and I
said, "Ready?" He said "Yes, and thank you very much!" I said "You're
welcome. It was something we should do. Please accept the gift of our
love." We gave him our love, and he almost cried. I said "Now!" I
ported him to just outside one of the adept's homes. We all watched
with 4th viewpoints. It went well. We hugged and kissed each other. I
said "It would be prudent to keep a light background watch on him, as
long as his privacy isn't invaded, to make sure he is better there than
with Zander." Ichi said, "Right. That went well. Let's tell Zander?"
We told Zander about Hahchet. Then I asked him if he had any
suggestions about my art project. He said +Can you make animals and
scenes of things of my planet?+ I said +Yes. I can do that for any
planet, after I study what I am to reproduce. That could take some
time, because animals are not going to arrange their behavior to my
time schedule, even if I ask them politely. At least not from a
distance. Do you have any preference for materials? If you do, carving
in natural materials is much more difficult and time consuming, and
therefore much more expensive, and what is done isn't always what was
intended, due to flaws in the material. I might have to use the
artist's creation tools, 'I meant to do that', or 'I meant to make
smaller pieces from that'.+ He laughed and said, +I understand.+ I said
+Because of that, they will only be what I choose when I have the urge,
or on special commission, and they will be likely one of a kind, and
will cost a literal fortune. Art of synthetic materials can be made in
seconds, after a few hours of intense calculations, and reproduced
identically. Bear in mind that scarcity and exclusivity can command a
high price, and that's what I'm after. I want to fund a LOT schools,
and I might want to set up a new Galactic Council which actually works,
if I can't get the present one to get it's head out of it's major
excretory orifice.+ He laughed and said, +I'm shocked! How indelicate
of you!+ I said +That's nothing. Some of us have said worse. Do you
have something specific you want me to make, and a market for it?+ He
told me what he had in mind. I said "I prefer to sell to only the 20
richest people on a planet, and not to any governments. Oh, and to one
other kind of person. Somebody who loves and appreciates art so much,
he would practically sell his own self to have one to look at and
admire. To that person, I might actually sell them something they can
afford. In secret, lest it be stolen from him. Oh, and there is
something else. Eating utensils. I have made some, and so has Ichi, out
of gem material. Good for chipping teeth, at least. But dropping one
could be a shattering experience.+ He laughed and thanked me for the
information. We disconnected.
Ichi said "Trying to get me some business?" I said "Why not? It
wouldn't hurt you to have some GC credits of your very own." He grinned
and said, "That's alright, I love you anyway." Rose said, "Can you
teach me to make something like that?" I said "I would really like to,
but it will have to be when you have progressed in ability, to make
that possible. You will have to have a finer object sense, better math
ability, and much better mind control. Give it time, and I think you
will be able to." She hugged me, and said against my chest, "Thank
you." I said "Have you wondered why I chose you to be on this mission,
when there are others who are more advanced than you are?" She said,
"Yes, I wondered. If you want to tell me, I want to know." I said "It's
because you have the best emotion sense of anybody your age ever had
that I know of, including me, and good partial telepathy. I expect
those to get even better. That's why I want you to have as much contact
with aliens as possible, so you can learn things about them which no
other of us can." She tried to not look disappointed. I said very
gently, "Do you think I could be a good and effective leader if I
played favorites?" She looked up at me and said, "Do you want to?" I
said "It would not be good for any of us if I answered that either
way." She said "I wish that weren't true." I covered my mouth tightly.
She laughed. We docked the ship and then ported to our own bedrooms.
Ichi said to me, "That was a tough one. I thought she almost got you."
I said "Not really. I expected it. The tough part was to get her to
laugh at the end." He said, in his hug, "But not difficult for our
Premiere Situation Manager." I kissed him to keep him from saying more.
