Stephen's Secure Blog #34
These stories about Stephen began was when he was 10 years old, and
moving to a new part of the country to attend a special school for
gifted students, in the 1950's. This was from a time before computers
would fit on a desk, and when people communicated with friends in other
countries by actual letters sent through the postal service. He wrote
225 of them to a friend. He stopped writing to his penpal, but found he
still wanted to record his life, in case he lost his memory again, and
wrote 30 entries in his first logbook. Then he wrote to an artificial
intelligence called Geenee, in the master computer in his school for
gifted students, which he started attending in 2016. Now it's 2018 and
later, and he's continuing to save his memories in a secure blog.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stephen is 12 in this story, in the Summer after year 2 of his special
school.
Stephen's Secure Blog #34 "To Go, Or Not To Go"
START Page
We woke up early, and resumed where we left off, and squirted very
well. Then we cleaned up, and dressed, and went outside to "exercise".
Then Hawk's father came out and asked to speak with me alone. Hawk went
inside, and we sat by the pool. I said, "Before we start, you should
know that Hawk can find out what we said, if he wants to. Eavesdropping
aside, he can quiz me and know what he wants to know without me
speaking, by reading my emotions and body language." He said "Oh.
Anyway, we have a problem. I don't want Rose to go to your school." I
said "She will. If not now, when she is legally an adult. The
difference to YOU, will be whether she hates you for crippling her
development, or not. If she doesn't go this year, there could be some
serious problems. There usually are, with untrained young Adepts.
Sometimes resulting in their deaths, or injuries to family members,
through accidental or unintentional use of powers. And if she has anger
and resentments, I sure wouldn't want to be around her when she has a
bad dream. Something like that happened to me once in my previous life,
and I scared the almost pants off some friends who were sleeping over.
We were fortunate it was only levitation. I had psionic lasers in my
palms, which I can show you now, if you want to see them in action. If
they had gone off in my sleep instead, things would have been REALLY
bad. The most important thing we teach at the school is mental
discipline, to manage that. Fighting training is a necessary part of
that."
I said "I can only guess at your reasons, but she will know them. She
will know when you lie, and she will know when you're wrong, because
she has a genius IQ now. And she has her brother. I don't think you can
keep them from talking to each other. There is one more thing. If she
grows up in her powers with resentment and anger, she will likely turn
to the Dark Path. Our trained Adepts can literally destroy entire solar
systems with a thought, with no effort at all. Yes, Hawk can do that.
He doesn't, because he is of the Light, and can't use his abilities
unjustly without them rebounding on him. Part of our training
reinforces that. When we find a Dark Adept who is misusing her powers,
we stop them, even if that means their death. We stopped one in Japan
last week. He'll live, because he didn't fight, but I don't know how
long his headache will last, after we destroyed his psionic abilities.
Most we have fought have died, or worse. We are the Guardians of Earth.
We protect the Earth from offworlders, like the people who made that
part of a spaceship Dr. Hanto showed us, and we protect the Earth from
US, and people like us who misuse their powers. We don't interfere with
what happens on Earth, socially and politically, and we don't interfere
with people who don't hurt other people. Even when we do right wrongs,
it's only when we see it."
I said "Rose and Cress won't be together forever. You know that. You
have to consider what will do the least harm in the long run, because
there is no perfect solution here. Something else you should know. Of
all the Adepts on Earth, Rose is one of only 7 we know of, who is
bonded with a psionic stone, and the only one other than me, who did it
in a past life. That makes her very special, even among Adepts. She has
an amazing future ahead of her, if she is allowed to have it. I think
she might be our first delegate to the Galactic Council. I don't want
the job, and among the prospects I know of the right age, she has the
best qualities for it." He almost said wow. Instead he said, "You've
given me a lot to think about. There is one thing I'll say now. You've
convinced me you've lived other lives. The wisdom you show can't be
acquired through anything but experience." I said "Thank you. Oh, if
you're worried about sexual things, that won't do any good. She will do
what she wants, when she wants, wherever she is. Nobody is going to
influence her in that now, not even you. I've raised daughters. I know.
The most we can do is try to instill in them the values we wish WE had
and didn't obey when we were young, before they start puberty, and
cross our fingers and toes and hope it takes, and try not to cross our
eyes when we find out what really happens after that." He chuckled and
said, "I see your point. Good man. Thanks. Lets go eat, and make them
really curious about what we talked about and aren't going to tell
them." I said "Right."
On the way back inside I said, "Would you like to know how I keep
grinned and said, "No, that would qualify as a lotion. Here, touch my
hand." His finger stopped an inch away. I said "What you feel is my
personal shield. I just set that part to stop all matter. In the sun
around here, I set it to just to stop all IR and UV. Still, it operates
by reflex when needed. If I get shot at, it will stop a bullet, even if
it wasn't operating before the shot. I would survive being in the
middle of an atomic bomb blast, if I had a tenth of a second warning. I
have to admit I'm the best with the shield, but I've made a belt for
our other adepts to wear, which has it, and more, all controlled by the
mind. We do everything we can to ensure our people are protected, from
ANYTHING. With the belt on, one of us can walk in the Moon, naked, and
not be harmed. I know, because that's how I tested it." He said "That
deserves a Wow!" I said "Thank you. Even the Senior Adepts I first
demonstrated it to, said that. And then pleaded to have their own,
which I made for them. Percy used it when he was helping some aliens to
repair their starship, in vacuum, before he screwed their chief
engineer." He stopped and said, "He had sex with an ALIEN?" I grinned
and showed him an image of Surrhaa. I said "Percy said she was
terrific. We all wanted her, but he was the only one on the spot when
there was an opportunity. He told us because he knew he couldn't keep
us from knowing. We don't have many secrets from each other. Almost
impossible to keep, so we don't try. Anyway, he was broadcasting his
sexual interest and satisfaction all over, which all of us Senior
Adepts could feel. Considering were he was, and who he was with, we had
to know." He chuckled, "Amazing world you live in." I said
"Absolutely!"
After breakfast, Cress said, "What are we going to do today?" I acted
like I was going to say something, and she pounced on that and said,
"Besides lunch!" I pantomimed frustrated disappointment, and they
laughed. Hawk said, "What about the festival?" He said to me, "Navajo
cultural things, like art and dancing demonstrations." I said "Sounds
very interesting. If we go, I would like to bring a pad and some pastel
pencils with me." His father said, "You're an artist?" I said "Before
anything else, yes. In fact, I've been working on a project. I'd like
to make and give it to you now. It will only take a minute. All the
real work is in the mental programming." A minute later, I ported a
statue to the table. It was about 37cm tall, and looked like it was
made of translucent shiny bronze, of a rearing horse, with a Mongol
Warrior brandishing a spear. They all said "Wow!" Their mother said, "I
don't recognize the material. Is it glass?" I said "Carved from a
single block of brown diamond. I made it in space, and then brought it
here. I had set aside part of my mind to design it and program the
virtual tools to make it, since right after I told you about that life.
All that was done, so I triggered the program, and it was made in space
in about a minute, using my own abilities in an automatic way. It's
kind of a new process I developed recently." Hawk said "I'll bet!" I
said "I suggest you don't tell people what it's really made of. They
won't believe you. Would be really bad if they did." Rose said "It must
be worth a fortune!" I said "It isn't worth anything but love. It
doesn't have a monetary value, because it's never been bought. It is
kind of different, though." Cress said "I don't care. I like it." I
smiled at her and said, "That's all I care about." She came over to me
and kissed my cheek and hugged me, and I said to the family, "This is
the real fortune. YOU. And love." They nodded, and not with completely
dry eyes.
