One:
Thou shall respect and thank all posters who tirelessly post and make available many gifts you otherwise would never see.
Two:
Thou shall not ask for any repost until a reasonable time has passed (at least 24 hours) to give them a chance to arrive on your local news server.
Three:
Thou shall not insult a poster's intelligence by saying parts are "missing", "defective", contain a virus, won't play etc.. If something is wrong, the fault almost certainly is with something you did or didn't do or beyond the poster's control.
Four:
Thou shall make an honest effort to help yourself. This includes learning the basics of joining and checking multiple news servers for parts you want but don't have, as well and taking a few minutes to read answers to other people's problems. Who knows, some day the answer just may help you!
Five:
Only after making a good faith effort to help yourself should you ask for a repost and then only for a reasonable number of parts. Asking for 1-25 parts is reasonable if you don't make a habit of it. Asking for a hundred or more at once is ridiculous!
Six:
Thou shall not respond to trolls, kooks, or nut cases, that sometimes pass through the newsgroup. Never! No exceptions. They are all fools or worse and not worth your time. The less attention such idiots get, the sooner they leave because all they want is attention. If they don't get any they're gone.
Seven:
Unless it is far off topic, thou shall not complain about anything posted. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean a bunch of others didn't like it. Besides, if you piss off the poster, nobody will ever know what his next offerings was going to be, which might have been a real barnburner.
Eight:
Thou shall not ask for an entire theme to be posted again days after it was just completed. Posters have lives too outside this newsgroup and just may be busy downloading something they don't have. If you join this group after the start or the majority of a theme has already been posted, WAIT until it is finished to ask for the parts you don't have. If the poster stops to honor every request for "missing" parts day after day, he has little time to actually finish any theme. In the meantime, download the parts that are available.
Nine:
Thou should be aware of the dangers of Trojans, batch files, etc., some malicious posters may at times try to embed in otherwise safe looking files. NEVER trust a .bat, .exe or self-running mpg file. Another reason the themes are split, it is for your protection! It never hurts to take a minute to run any file (once joined) through a virus checker, BEFORE actually running it. Be aware some jerk may try to spoof a regular poster you trust, so this little added caution doesn't hurt. Better safe, than sorry.
Ten:
Thou shall not engage in activity that upsets posters. Arguing, complaining, engaging trolls, making demands, being inpatient, etc., is poor conduct. Accordingly poor conduct is met with a reduction of posting or no posting at all. Good conduct is best expressed by a helpful, friendly and GRATEFUL readership. Such conduct is rewarded with more themes, which is after all what everyone wants. Right?
Remember, a good newsgroup is only as good as the posters that contribute. In that regard, we are very lucky to have several posters that spend a good deal of their personal time-sharing. None of them can be thanked too much for their special gifts. Love is indeed the strongest force in the universe and that shows here.
