The Adventures of Stevie #80
These stories were told to me by friends and other people. Some of them
are true. Some of them are only partly true. Some of them should have
been true. LOL
My first post about Stevie ("Call me Stephen!") was when he was 12 and
in summer camp and was told by another camper. This was from a time
before computers would fit on a desk and when people communicated with
friends in other countries by actual letters sent through the postal
service. When children did this those friends were called "penpals".
Carlos is Stevie's penpal in Argentina and knows English. This is a
fictional contrivance to enable Stevie to tell us his stories because
he isn't here in person. I think.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Stevie's school is for gifted children who don't fit in regular schools.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stevie is 12 in this story, in year 3 of his special school.
The Adventures of Stevie #80 "UnPriestly Part 2"
Dear Carlos,
We were going to take care of some nasty business in Rod's church.
The Chief sat when the Priest behind the desk motioned him to. Rod
stood behind and to one side of me. I stood in front of the desk, about
4 feet away. The Chief said "Your Eminence, there is a serious problem
we are here to address. This is Rod, and Stephen, who is the head of
this little delegation. Please believe everything he says. I stand by
it, and him. He spared my life, and my career once, when I didn't
deserve it. You MUST listen to him, and believe him." I spun my mind
through someplace else, and part way back, and said in a strange
powerful voice, "Some of your Priests are molesting boys. The boys in
your care. The boys who serve your Church. The Altar Boys and others.
You know of this. It will stop. Now." He said "Now see here! You can't
come in here and make these baseless accusations!" I waved my hand at
the Chief who told him, "The boys have already told Stephen. They will
testify in court, if they need to. There is other evidence as well. We
will find more in your records, if we have to. Believe me, I don't want
to do this, but I must. You don't know who you are dealing with now,
who he is, and who he can call upon." I did what I thought I might have
to. All that time I had been calling all the free life energy to me I
could, and there was a whole lot of it around, and storing it in my
special chakra. I changed my voice a little so it sounded like it
echoed a little, and said in a really big adult voice, "I am Stephen.
Stephanos to you. If you do not do as I require, it is not I who will
be martyred this time, but YOU, and in shame."
I took some of the energy I had stored, and sent it up and around my
head, and tried to turn it into visible light. I could tell the light
in the room got brighter. That, and the Priest's mouth falling open,
told me it worked. I said even louder "What would Brother Nicholas say
of you, for what you have allowed to happen to his children?" I called
the dog who was waiting outside. The Priest there let him in. I held
out my hand beside me, and he came up from behind and licked my hand,
and sat. I said "What would gentle Brother Francis think of you?" The
Priest looked white as a scared ghost he could have seen. If I had said
Boo, he would have fainted. I said "I know who they are who have hurt
the children, but you must tell me, for your very soul." He could
hardly squeak, but he did, and there where more names than I thought.
The Chief copied them down. I said "You will remove those Priests from
all duties. You will see that they are defrocked. You will provide the
Chief with all their current and future home addresses you know, or the
Church knows about. You will provide each Alter Boy, past and present,
under 25 years of age, with a full college scholarship to any
university they choose, for ANY education they desire, for as long as
they stay in school. You may do it in secret if you wish, but do it. It
will not heal your victims, but it may help them to live better lives
than you would have had them live. Then pray Brother Nicholas forgives
you. You will see to it that this never happens again, and you will
tell all of this to your successor. You may speak. What say you?"
He got up and came and knelt in front of me. He said "I will do what
you say. Please forgive me!" I said "Do not kneel to me. That is
Blasphemy!" I was really giving him the works. I said "Only your Lord
can forgive you, but you must earn it. Always remember that, in the
time you have left, before he calls you to receive his final judgement.
Remember also, if you do not do all that I say, that time may be very
soon." I made the dog bare his teeth and growl in his face. The poor
guy almost fainted then. I turned my back on him and walked out the
door I had signaled behind me for Rod to open for me. The Chief
followed. I made the dog come last, after a few more growls. I told the
Priest who was still waiting outside the door to take us to where we
could rest. Then I turned off my headlight. When we closed the door to
the room, I let myself collapse to the floor, I was so tired. They
picked me up and put me in a chair. I said "I'm alright, just very
tired. Sorry about my voice. I think I abused it a little." It was
scratchy.
Rod said "I'll say!" I said "No, I said it," and smiled at him. He
smiled back, and hugged me hard and kissed me on the cheek. He said
"You are the best second brother I ever had." I said "Thanks a lot,"
and poked him. The Chief said to me "Who ARE you?" I said "Me. Isn't
that really all anybody can say?" He said "But that wasn't you in
there." I said, "Who was it, Rumpelstiltskin? I spoke and did things.
You saw me. Tricks, remember? If you mean how did I know what would
work on him, well, I have 3 undergraduate degrees, and I'm working on 4
master's degrees, and plan to have 3 of them finished by the end of the
school year. Yes, Rod and I are geniuses, and go to the same school. I
thought you would have guessed it by now. He said "Oh! And that's your
dog?" I smiled at him and said, "Nope. Never met him before." He said
"Right. That's all you will get from me. I'm okay now, so we can go. We
will take the dog with us, till we get outside. He should go home,
wherever that is."
When we were almost at the nave, or whatever it's called, I said to
the Chief, "If you ever need me to do the impossible for children in
terrible danger, you know how to contact me. Just remember, if I come,
I will do it MY way, which might make things bad for you." He said, "I
will remember, and thank you." I hugged him, and gave him love. He
looked surprised. I said to him "Remember Jeremy? The boy who hugged
you in the store office?" He nodded. I said with a grin, "I've been
taking lessons." He said "I see. Thank you." He left to go to his
impatient wife, and Rod and I went to the rest of his family. But first
I told him, "You can tell your parents everything you think they should
know, which you think they will believe, which might be a little more
than you think, about the rescue and what happened today, but don't
tell Davie. I will put him to sleep in the car. He won't remember it.
Then you can tell them just enough to keep them from asking for more in
front of Davie after he wakes up, if they agree to keep it totally
secret. Okay?" He agreed. His parents and Davie wanted to know where we
were and what happened. I said "It's something private. I'm still
thinking about it. I can tell you some of it later, okay?" They agreed.
We got in the car. I told Davie I was tired and a little sick, and
could use some nice hugging. He was eager to do just that. I put my
hand on his forehead and made him sleep with love. I nodded to Dan, who
gave them a quick account of what happened, and that he would tell them
more in private. Then I let Davie wake up. He never knew he missed
anything. We stopped to have lunch at a restaurant, and then went to
their home. I played outside with Davie while Rod told his parents. It
was close to supper before Rod came and got us. I signaled "how much?",
and he signaled back "all". We went in. I raised an eyebrow to his
parents, and got a thumbs up back. Rod took his brother in the bedroom
with him, and I sat with his parents. I said to them "So, any
questions?" Their father said "We are too, I don't know, unsettled, to
ask any now, but we do want to thank you for saving our Church. AND
Davie from what could have happened to him." I said "You're welcome,
but I just did what I had to do. Can I ask you something that's very
important to me? Maybe a small favor?" Their mother said "Yes,
anything." I said "I have my original family, and I have my foster
family. I love them all as any real family I belong to. I think of this
family as one of mine too, with you as real extra parents to me, and
Rod and Davie as real brothers. I love you all. Is this okay with you?
Can I keep thinking and feeling this way?" Their mother started to cry.
Their father picked me up and sat me on his lap and hugged and kissed
me. He said "We love you as a son, as a friend, and as someone far
beyond us we can learn from. We are honored you have chosen us. Please
think of us as you do, our hero." I said "Not that again!" He said, "As
one of your fathers, I say shut up and accept it. You are our very own
hero, and always be." I said "But Rod is a hero too." Their mother said
"It doesn't hurt to have 2 in the family." Then they both hugged and
kissed and tickled me. I didn't object at all.
We went into the bedroom, holding hands. Their father announced,
"It's official. Not in the legal sense, but to us, and to you both, if
you agree. Stephen is part of our family, just like with his first and
foster families. We think of him this way, and he thinks of us this
way, and of you as real brothers. What do you say?" They said a lot,
between screaming with joy, and crying with happiness. I didn't expect
all THAT. You know what a pogo stick is? It looked like Davie had one
built in, he was jumping all over so much. Rod was just crying and not
bothering to wipe his face. Do you know how hard it is to hug a
bouncing boy? Hard. He banged his head on my nose. I said "Ouch!" He
stopped dead. I said "It's alright, but it knows what you did to my
nose, and no noes about it." He had to smile at that.
I sat between Davie and Rod at supper. Both of them would reach out
and touch one of my hands for a second, every minute or so, all the
time we ate, like they weren't sure I was real. I thought it was funny,
but I didn't let them see that. Their parents smiled every time they
saw it. I winked at them, which made them smile more. Do you know how
hard it is to smile really big, and eat at the time time? It's not
easy, and it doesn't look pretty. I didn't tell them. When we were
finished, their father said to us kids, "Stephen will be going to his
other home soon. You have a few hours still, to give him a good welcome
to the family, and say goodbye. This time, please close your door. What
you do in there is very distracting, when we are trying to watch TV out
here." We all smiled.
They did give me a very good welcome. It started when I had to take
Davie's clothes off me to give them back. They wouldn't let me do it.
They insisted on doing it themselves. Then they grabbed and stroked my
monster and nuts, and all the rest of me, and kissed me all over. I
tried to do the same to them, but they wouldn't let me do that either.
I said "But I like doing it to brothers I love. A lot." They had to let
me do it then. But not much. I was outnumbered. And out-handed, and
out-mouthed. This time I squirted first, then they did. Then we rested.
Rod said "That was the welcome. Now we do the goodbye." I groaned, very
theatrically. They laughed, but didn't let that stop them from doing it
all over. I was too tired to resist, so I didn't, but I did have a very
good time, and squirted all over them. A VERY good time. Sometimes I
like goodbyes VERY much.
Your friend,
Stephen
