The Adventures of Stevie #4
These stories were told to me by friends and other people. Some of them
are true. Some of them are only partly true. Some of them should have
been true. LOL
My first post about Stevie ("Call me Stephen!") was when he was 12 and
in summer camp and was told by another camper. This was from a time
before computers would fit on a desk and when people communicated with
friends in other countries by actual letters sent through the postal
service. When children did this those friends were called "penpals".
Carlos is Stevie's penpal in Argentina and knows English. This is a
fictional contrivance to enable Stevie to tell us his stories because
he isn't here in person. I think.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stevie is 10 in this story, which takes place a week after story #3

The Adventures of Stevie #4 "Ivy"
Dear Carlos,
I moved from my Aunt's really small apartment in the city to a really
BIG house in a forest. I never lived in a forest before. The house is
on a hill. I sleep on a pull out bed in the big basement which has big
doors to outside which are windows that look down the hill which is all
covered with trees. It's very beautiful! The people here are a mother
and a father and a girl Jane who is 11 and a cat. I have met parents
and girls before but I never met a cat. It's a girl cat who is all
black and 8 years old. They say that's very old for a cat. I can't tell
that because she doesn't have wrinkles just very soft fur.
On my second day here I discovered something very important. I woke up
in the morning and found something black and furry growing out of my
side! It was breathing but faster than the rest of me was. Then I woke
up more and saw it was the cat. I made friends with the cat the night
before and petted it a lot. I didn't know that would make me sleeping
company! I learned it's important to be very careful how you sleep when
a cat likes you or you might find a squashed cat under you when you
wake up. We were lucky it didn't happen this time. The cat is very
nice. I like her to think I'm nice too.
Jane knows all the great places to visit and play in the forest. We
went all over. And under. Ha ha. Jane knows a lot about it and she's
strong too. She is more like a boy then a girl. She helped me get
untangled from some bushes I fell into a few times. It's tricky walking
and running and playing tag in a forest on a hill. Sometimes it's fun
to roll down the hill but not by accident where it's fill of broken
branches and other stuff that's just waiting to poke you in places you
didn't know you had till then.
Yesterday when we came home after playing in the forest all morning I
found out something bad. Jane told her mother I fell into some poison
ivy. I didn't know what it was before but I really do now! If you don't
have it where you live I can tell you it has leaves that have oil on
them that does bad things to skin. It causes itchy blisters that can
spread if you scratch them. You do NOT NOT NOT want to touch a blister
and then touch yourself in the fun place!!!!! Jane's mother said I had
to take a bath right away to wash off all that bad oil to keep it from
spreading. I did and she made sure I scrubbed all over. It was strange
having a different mother help me take a bath I didn't need help with.
She left me to finish up and then Jane walked in! I was NAKED in front
of a GIRL!
No she didn't see any important stuff because I was sitting in the
water but I had to stand up sooner or later or turn into a fish. We
talked a bit and she didn't make anything of me be being naked. I got
my courage together and stood up and reached for the towel to get dry.
Jane didn't act any different when she could see all of me. Then her
mother called her to help with making lunch and she left. I got dressed
in different clothes and went to eat.
I told you I didn't want to get naked in front of a girl. I found out
it isn't so bad. Just a little bit cold when you're all wet. Ha Ha.
I didn't get any blisters from the poison ivy. It could be because I
washed it all off before it could do bad things to my skin or because
the oil didn't get on me just my clothes. Or maybe it wasn't really
poison ivy I fell into and Jane made it up so she could get a look at
me naked. What do you think?
Your friend,
Stephen
