The first time round, once you're hooked, you read tham in publication order,
at least if you began when I did. After that, you begin to make the
connections.
"Dragonsdawn", "Red Star Rising", and "Moreta" (and "Nerilka") stand on their
own.
After that, there is always some overlapping. Strictly, you should read
"Masterharper" before "Dragonflight". The rest are too confusing. But, since
each is a good story in its own right, why worry?
Read them, and read them again and again. Then you will get a grasp of Pernese
chronology. Don't forget the short stories. "The Smallest Dragonboy" will tell
you about K'van's impression of Heth, and "The Girl who heard Dragons" about
the connection between Aramina and K'van.
