already know. Usenet does not belong to you. It is not your private ski-resort
where you let in who you want and escort the rest out the door. The Boylove
Lurkers aren't going anywhere. We are just as much a staple here as the
posters. Persistence and Tenacity will lead us to the groups. It may take a
while but you aren't going to stop us. We are bright individuals and we will
find the boylove groups. And if you think you and your cronies hold the very
life and death of the Boylove Usenet Groups in your hands..well sorry to burst
your bubble. Behind you is another poster waiting to become a star when you
fade into the sunset.
Dear Posters and others who figure this out,
We have witnessed the slow decay of open posting in our groups. Those with
access to content are increasingly turning to private sharing groups or
retiring from posting altogether because of the state of things in the groups.
Our newbies are actually endangering the posters and themselves in their
desperation to acquire content. The scare with BB caused a number of newbies to
almost make a big mistake by posting before they knew what they were doing.
Barbra, if you're reading this, I still don't know if you're legit or not. What
you were attempting was not so bad, but the way you went about it was dangerous
for others who might have trusted you out of desperation. Not a good basis for
a trust-based relationship.
I had outlined a possible plan for safe posting in my post to BB. A long time
security expert (The Lookout) made a few suggestions that crystallized into a
plan that will work if we stick to our plan.
If you read my post to you then you will remember that I had suggested an
alternate way of posting that used two groups. Well The Lookout suggested the
following method which I think will work with even more security.
We would use 3 groups.
One for text: alt.fan.slowcooked (The Library)
One for binaries: alt.binaries.slowcooked (The Grille)
And the third group for the Par files: alt.binaries.daws (The Country Club)
None of those groups have been compromised. As I'd stated before, the key to
the plan is to NOT post the part 1 files in the binaries group. That makes the
archive impossible to assemble as it is, even with a password.
It would also be impossible to repair, join, and extract the files without
knowing the two binary groups. If the archives were encrypted (PGP
conventional), the passphrase could be the code name of the other binary group
(ie...'TheCountryClub' for the binaries group and 'TheGrille' for the Par file
group. Someone who had access to all three groups could download all files,
use the passphrase "TheGrille" to decrypt the Par files and the password
"TheCountryClub" to decrypt the binaries files.
Any text postings in the binary groups would be religiously ignored. Eventually
the newer lurkers would give up posting text because no one pays them any
attention, just like in the secret groups.
If the integrity of the groups were compromised, posters could switch to a
predetermined set of fall back groups that we could agree on ahead of time. It
would make sense for all binaries posters to change their posting names to
disassociate them from previous groups, which would make the Trolls' job harder.
A FAQ for the three groups would be posted in The Library once a week. These
groups are all new and many already know about them, but the trolls don't know.
General messages to other posters and to lurkers could be imbedded in the
archives to make it even harder for Trolls to figure things out.
Newbies who ask questions in chakotay, the Jimmy groups, The Fort etc. could be
pointed to The Library. But we make them responsible for doing their own
legwork. Posters should not respond openly to requests and repetitive
questions. That practice only encourages laziness.
We could leave one another messages in The Library using a special password:
HooleyDooley. So if I wanted to leave a message for Barbra's Bagels and Bowser
I would put it in an archive marked: 'Secret for BB and Boswer' with the
HooleyDooley password. Of course all who read this would know that, but we can
change it later if we want. So with that in mind, if you like my plan, please
post a message in The Library letting me and the others know (don't forget to
use the secret password). We can make plans then as we gather a consensus.
There will be clever lurkers who figure this out too. If you have comments,
please leave a message in The Library.
