dzihan and kamien first met while studying music in vienna, and
there, in the very center of europe, formed a duo that suggested a
newer, more international definition of what it means to be
"european." vlado dzihan had come from sarajevo, in what was then
yugoslavia, where he was raised in a musical family. mario kamien
came from switzerland, where he was born to german and italian
parents with polish roots. their shared interest in the music of
the near east, especially the music of turkey (which is partly in
europe, after all), led to their freeform mix of arabic strings,
elusive sampled vocals, and irresistible trip-hop rhythms.
live-set on 25th august 2002 at bomb the jazz in budapest.
