This is a 5.1 surround remix of the 1969 Led Zeppelin song "Ramble On",
taken from the popular torrent of "Led Zeppelin II" album stems.
It is NOT an upmix of a stereo release.
It attempts to vaguely mimic the popular stereo mix, but with more of
an acoustic feel, and of course with lots of instrument separation
and a fuller dynamic range.
Some notes:
1.) The stems only contained two tracks of drums, probably from the stereo overhead mics.
Without discrete mics on the snare and hi-hat, those instruments are weak in this mix.
2.) Minimal effects were added to the raw tracks:
a.) The vocals were given modest reverb (less than on the popular stereo mix)
b.) The drum EQ was brightened to make up for the lack of discrete snare & hi-hat tracks.
3.) The song does not fade out like the stereo mix, but breaks down as it did during recording.
4.) No vocal parts are suppressed, even questionable ad libs that were not in the stereo mix.
5.) Only a few guitar parts are suppressed: Page tuning up, and goofing with random feedback.
Especially listen for a guitar fill in the left rear at 2:04, coming out of the guitar solo.
6.) The LFE channel is unused, as subwoofer x-over choices are best made by the playback system.
