It will rotate and crop, but I don't rely on it because it uses the
edges of the paper rather than the panels for alignment (and I still
have to manually crop at the gutter). I normally use the Photoshop
ruler tool (and the cropping tool with a preset size). Before I learned
about it, I used to adjust a page manually until I thought it looked
okay or aligned with the grid. Big time savings there.

The lid is heavy but I usually supplement that by holding it down to
lessen creases or wrinkes. I disassemble comics before I scan them, so
I don't have to worry about hiding the gutter. The scanner will
accomodate a gutter, but it need to be a fairly wide one.

Scanning a single comic page takes maybe 8 seconds. Cleanup, honestly,
depends on the quality of the printing and the paper and my ambition. I
spent many, many hours on the Dinky Duck and that rare Whitman Popeye
(for which the newsprint looked like it was made of old match sticks
and pencil shavings). I tend to buy cheaper comics to save money but
they typically require more repairs Every so often I get a comic that
only needs to be rotated and cropped -- which is like a dream.
When I'm in scanning mode, I generally put on an old radio show or
similar, have a nice glass of bourbon at hand, and scan away until I'm
done, drunk, or lose interest. It's pretty mindless work.

I think if you can get the full potential out of your scanner, you
probably won't regret the purchase.
