I go to LB daily for the old stuff and I've had no problems with it.
There have been a number of days when nothing new was posted, but it
usually catches up. I rely on Usenet for the (very) few current comics
that I have any interest in.
I can't speak for the other sites. I haven't used MCP since he started
restricting it to people who donate, but I just checked and it _is_
down at the moment. I suspect that any place that asks for money is
also asking for trouble, but who knows?
I tried using the NZB sites for current TV shows but ultimately gave
up. I find that if I can't DVR them, then I pretty much don't care
because it was mostly about the getting and not the having (as in, the
journey not the destination). I stopped DVR-ing Supergirl because it's
on at the same time as something else, and I don't miss it at all. I
used to joke that my VHS player watched things so I didn't have to, and
newer technology doesn't change that.
In fact, I'd have to say that the more video I have access to, the less
I care about any of it. I have dozens of commercial DVD TV season sets
and pretty much never watch them -- even shows that I really like. I
mean, when am I going to sit through 4 seasons of Rocky & Bullwinkle,
or 18 seasons of the Simpsons?
And here's the rub: The same is true of digital comics. When am I ever
going to slog through 700+ issues of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and
the like? Or even 100 issues of Crime Does Not Pay? Sturgeon's Law
applies to comics as well (in spades). But, for the time being, I've
decided to keep my hand in with the comics because (a) it gives me
something to do and (b) I plan to give my collection to my alma mater
somewhere down the road. Also, this is kind of a golden age for
Charlton right now, thanks to Titansfan, and I would love to see him
move on to Gold Key when he's done.
