After a short absence, the DS Archives returns with the release of Volume 35, a low gen upgrade to the wonderful November 15, 1980 Houston, Texas show.
I had six different copies of this show to work with and the DS copy was the best of the bunch, it is possibly a 1st gen but DS just wasn't sure if it came directly from the taper so we're just going with low gen. I had a 1st gen to work with as well (the same source missing the last four songs) but this one edged it out with a richer overall sound.
I would not consider this a massive upgrade over the circulating version but IMHO it less flat and overall has a slightly richer and fuller sound. Samples provided as your mileage may vary...
Like a number of versions, this version was missing the first two minutes of "Badlands" but thanks to 'Hobbes4444' sending me his copy I was able to patch the first two minutes. Using iZotope's eqmatch I was able to match this patch very closely to the DS version.
Of course the usual detailed production/mastering that go into all my shares has been processed here, pitch adjusted, channel aligned, de-clicked, extreme audience noises extracted. Other than that, this one took very little actual mastering.
Thanks to DS for allowing us to continue to tap into his archives!
