Been using it since, oh, 2003-ish or so...
I can find most things I've cataloged within a few seconds using Cathy
(depends on number of hits, building the result list takes longer the
more hits you get).
There are three things wrong with Cathy: 1. it doesn't understand
Unicode, and 2. it has no RegEx searching. It has wild cards, sort of. 3.
you can only get a maximum of 9,999 hits. Most likely because of the
problem with building the result list.
Oh, and I run Cathy under Wine on my Linux system and it works perfectly
fine. Couple of features missing, it can no longer open directories or
open files. On Windows it can. I've learned to live without that feature.
So, this must be a huge program to install, right? Well, unpacked from
the ZIP it's around 150 kB, only one file. Unpack, run. That simple.
Just noticed as I researched this, that he has a new version out, from
2019-07-06. Have to try that one and see if it still works in Wine. :D
