This movie is much better than my # 53 Crime-Mystery ranking would seem to indicate. Most people would rate it much higher.
The reason is I really like 1930s - 1940s Charlie Chan movies, starring both Warner Oland and Sidney Toler. I also like 1939 - 1946 Sherlock Holmes movies starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. (They are not topical in this NG.)
I would rather watch one of those movies than many newer movies. My ranking system is subjective. It reflects my personal tastes. I would give this movie a much higher ranking if I were rating it for a public audience.
I can understand disagreement if one isn't a Charlie Chan or Sherlock Holmes fan, or is unfamiliar with those movies. If that is the case, IMDb's 7.9 rating should be a good gauge.
