Danny,

All of Usenet is old school anymore, as is flaming.  I posted in
response to earlier posts where somebody did, in fact, download a file
and lamented about the password.  Sadly, many fools may be so tricked
in downloading a file without a preview featuring an obscure name. Who
but the clueless would do such a thing?  Making Usenet more difficult
is a way to discourage use.

Further I remarked about the notion of forums being pointers to Usenet
posts.  That is somewhat contrary to the spirt of Usenet which is
really old school.  Those forums are the source of posts with obscure
filenames, sometimes passworded.  You must join the forum,  sometimes
must thank the poster to get pointed to the NZB for the group hosting
the post.  The previews are in the forum and the posts may be to a
group containing millions of headers.

Some forums appear to be related more to TV content or other content
often subject to quick DCMA takedown.  Remember the great demise of
the Southern Ch@rm3 content via DCMA and real poster legal attacks
back in 2012?  Further the forums often support fully automated
downloads even into users Plex servers so they can directly watch on
their TVs.

Even more old school is my Xpost to where this sort of stuff was
usually discussed - the a.b..multimedia.erotica.d group.  Instead of
using the 'd' group, some use another forum Reddit.  Finally, the
notion of spammers screen scraping is really old school.  I've munged
my usable email address for eons and get no more than the usual spam
nonsense.  While Yahoo is not so good at spam filtering as Gmail it
remains adequate.  I'm less aware of the filtering at Buffoon, I
assume you get very little spam there along with less social
interaction.
