Suppose your deaf child could have an operation (although not without risk)
that might allow him or her to hear again. Dan Miller and his wife, Laura
only want what's best for their happy and healthy 8-year-old son, Adam, who's
been deaf since age four. Laura, who is also deaf, opposes the surgery -- a
Cochlear Implant. She doesn't consider deafness a "disability."
Laura believes an operation --regardless of the outcome-- would make Adam
feel that something was wrong with him. Dan, who is hearing, misses talking
and listening to his son. For Dan, an operation is worth the risk, believing
Adam's life would be easier and more complete if he could hear.
This is a devoted family facing a moment of truth. Together or apart, Dan
and Laura must make a life-altering decision on behalf of their son...

I finally got around to watching this, and while I was already quite taken
with Noah Valencia just from skipping through the movie previously, after a
complete viewing I have fallen fully in love with this brown-eyed, curly-
haired little man :hugs:
Not meaning to be insensitive or condescending at all, but I do have to admit
that boys with disabilities illicit an automatic response in me and make me
feel paternal (maternal?) and protective towards them. Perhaps it's a
perception of vulnerability or increased innocence because of their handicap,
but my heart just breaks and I long to hold and soothe...
Watching little 'Adam' in this film, there were probably about 804 instances
where I said "Awww" during the course of its 93-minute running time. He has
such a sweet face and even sweeter disposition (in the film, anyway - Who
knows, he might have been a holy terror in real life :-P ).
The movie is, of course, much more focused on the events of the trial and the
relationship between the mother and father, but trust me, Adam gets more than
enough screentime to make this a worthwhile download and watch. I was not
happy nor satisfied with the ending, but I won't comment on it here, so as
not to spoil anything for those of you who haven't seen it yet.
In bit-part roles we also get to see Garrett Ryan as David, another deaf boy
who receives the Cochlear Implant and is able to hear, Nolan Gould as Mark
Scott and Michael Ormsby as Todd, two little neighborhood boys that Adam enc-
ounters. You'll know Nolan Gould as soon as you see him, his face reminds
one of young Danny Corkill (Turtle Fox in the 1985 "D.A.R.Y.L.").
