Tony Manetta is a small-time Miami Beach hotel operator struggling to become a
big-time hotel operator. Though constantly broke and barely able to make the
payments on his own modest inn, he dreams of one day opening a million dollar
resort.
In addition to bill collectors, the forward-thinking Tony must contend with
his beatnik girlfriend, Shirl, and his well-meaning, but conservative brother
and sister-in-law.
While the carefree widower may not have money, he is rich in one respect: He's
got the unconditional love of his young son, Alvin 'Ally' Manetta, who admires
him even if he isn't a big shot.
But when Tony asks his wealthy brother, Mario, for a loan, Mario, who disapp-
roves of Tony's swinging lifestyle, agrees to back his brother on one con-
dition: Settle down and get married, or give Mario and his wife custody of
Ally!
Tony might be desperate, but he'd have to have A Hole in the Head to agree to
Mario's terms... wouldn't he?
Ultimaely it is little Ally who teaches Tony that there is more than one way
to measure success.

Here's one I've shared on a few other occasions on the various Blogs, Forums
and whatnot. A good movie bears sharing more than once, and if this one only
had Frank Sinatra, Edward G. Robinson, Carolyn Jones, Keenan Wynn and Thelma
Ritter in it, it would be a --good-- movie, but by the addition of red-headed
little moppet Eddie Hodges, it is transformed into a --GREAT-- movie!
Despite having such big-name stars, this film is all but unknown by most
today. The movie had a DVD release by MGM, and 2015 saw the introduction of
it on Blu-ray by Olive Films, although there were no Extras included (not even
subtitles, for cryin' out loud!), and it garnered only mid-range ratings
(3.5/5) by such sites as Blu-ray.com, for the lackluster video treatment the
transfer received.
I first came to the knowledge of this film after seeing a poster online which
depicted Frank Sinatra holding (or twirling?) Eddie Hodges, and was immed-
iately taken with it. A quick search rewarded me with a DVD-Rip from a pri-
vate torrent tracker, and after seeing little Eddie's first scene at four min-
utes into the movie --asleep in a lawn chair in front of the Garden of Eden,
his father's Miami Beach hotel-- I knew I was going to love this picture.
It has Comedy, Drama, a touch of Social Commentary, and that 50's-60's Vibe
that still draws me to these oldies-but-goodies. Eddie gets a more than ade-
quate amount of screen time, with his character being a major centerpoint of
the story. He's in most scenes, other than a few brief segments with Frank
Sinatra's character hustling his hotel ideas to rich pal Jerry Marks (Keenan
Wynn), and a couple of romantic interludes.
And watch at the 48:20 point when Frank and Eddie team up to sing "High
I've talked enough - Go, download this film, and enjoy :)
Geronimo!
(you'll understand after you've watched the movie :o) )
I'm posting both the MGM NTSC DVD9 and the Olive Films Region A BD25, because
