Re: Ping anyone who would be willing to help me with TC O.A.C.O.
Trevor Myner (tmyner@sessions.net) 2012/01/02 11:50

My dear brother Skeggs,

If you are trying to create a volume yourself that you wish to put your
own files in to postfor the rest of us, then you should start with an
empty text file.

Create a simple notepad, wordpad, or other plain text document with
whatever file name you like, perhaps with a strong hint at what
keyfiles are sued or what password, no text required since it will be
erasaed when you turn it into a TC volume.

Then, choose that file in the TC application as the file you wish to
make into a TC volume.  It will give you that warning you saw saying it
will overwrite the existing file, which is fine since it's an empty
text file you created for this porpoise...I mean purpose.

The TC app will then give you a number of choices to make regarding the
type of encryption and there are many.  I usually choose one with
several layers of encryption because...well, why not?

Then you will be askewd for what size the container should be (this
will be the total size of all the files you wish to place in the
container, plus maybe a little room for air so the boys can breathe).

Then you have the choices of using a password, keyfiles, or both.

Next the filesystem type.

Then you "format" the volume, turning the text file into an image file
with an encrypted password/keyfile entry.

After this step, you exit the Volume creator window, use the password
or keyfiles you just created to open the volume you just created, drop
your files into it like you would into a flash drive or external hard
drive.

IMPORTANT: wait for them to copy if they are large files because they
ARE being copied in the sense that they are going into a TC container
which is essentially a hard drive on your hard drive.   If you think
they are just "in there" like you dragged them from one folder to
another, you are mistaken.  They have to copy.

Then close the container, and ship it off to whatever group needs it.
A password clue is always nice in the text of the message too, but if
it's in the file name, that's good.

If you've read this far patiently wait to find out how to view the
files contained in posts which you downloaded, THAT IS MUCH EASIER and
you have been trying to CREATE a volume when you merely needed to OPEN
the volume and look for it in your system as an added hard drive.

For that, all you must do is download the file, combine the parts or
unzip/unrar it if necessary to create the completed volume, which
usually has a filename with no extension.

Next, open the TC app.

Add the conatiner you downloaded to the numbered TC volume table.

Click on MOUNT, which opens the ENTER PASSWORD window

Enter the password, unless there is no password and only keyfiles, in
which case...

Forget about the password and click on the "use keyfiles" box, then
click on "keyfiles" which opens the Select Keyfiles window.

Add the appropriate keyfiles and click OK, which returns you to the
ENTER PASSWORD window.

Click OK again.

The TC app should then mount your contianer as a new volume on your
computer, as if you have just attached an external hard drive.

On my comuter, for some reason, it does not name the volume the same as
the filename but instead as "NONAME" or UNKNOWN VOLUME".

If you are planning to transfer the files in the container to another
volume, make sure it is a secure one.  In fact, one of TC's main
functions is to create a huge volume on your hard drive which must be
password verified to open.  In any case, do what you will with the
files in the container, then unmount the container.

If you have transfered selected files out of the container and no
longer need it, you should delete the container with an application
that completely zeros out the sapce where the container was on your
hard drive.

Do you need more clarification?

Let me know.

I should just point out, any LEA worth one tenth of his/her salary
should know all of this already.

In fact, you cannot be sure that I am not LEA.

That fact saddens me, as existential isolation always does.  But at
least I'm helping you in some way.  I'd say that if I were LEA, you'd
have a good case to have charges dismissed for entrapment, since I'm
enabling you to open the containers.  That's like holding someone's
trigger hand still as they shoot someone.  Isn't it?

Be good.  Do no harm.

TM
