The last time I updated MAME was the end of 2010... had it running on
my old WinXP machine. Well, said machine is on its last legs, so I am
in the process of moving off of it - and windows altogether ( Win 10
is the devil's work, I tell you! : ) )
So, I have Linux on the new machine - and was hoping that my old
version (Mame/MameUI32 .141) would work in WINE... as I was content
with it and the supported roms - and it ALMOST did - but not with
scanlines (very choppy/slow with them enabled).
Had to have my scanlines!
So, I was pretty sure it couldn't be the machine (it is lower end -
but tops the 20 year old box it is replacing) - so I went with the
Linux native - latest MAME version.
A few changes, in the past decade, I see :D
...the bgfx stuff is quite nice - and provides a WAY cooler scanline
effect than the old version.
(...and works fine on the new machine!)
BUT, of course... some of my roms are out of date.
Which brings me here. :D
I figured I wouldn't bother doing a full scan / mass request for
updates - as I don't play a whole lot - and figure I'll just eyeball
the group for resposts here and there and request any "broken" roms as
I run into them... I've done a preliminary scan of some of my
favorites - and there's only seven that don't work anymore - so I'll
request them in a different post... in case this gets overlooked as a
TL;DR ;)
Why did I feel the need to regale you all with this story, instead of
just requesting the damn things? *shrug* Figured it might help in
some way if you know where I'm coming from (i.e. Not looking to
update/ grab all new roms, etc - just looking to bring my old set into
a working state for the latest versions)... or perhaps hoping someone
could suggest a better way forward to that end...
...and it's good writing practice, too, I guess.
