Sorry, you are right about one thing in particular, I forgot that not
all of us speak the same language(s) with the same familiarity. And
don't worry, your English is much better than anything I might try to
write in a language that is not my own mother tongue! Except for the
time years ago when I wrote the awesome David Alejandro and made an
offhand comment in Spanish (Te amo, hermanito, I think I said) and he
assumed that meant I understood Spanish! And that was back in the days
before instant translation, so I had to go get some books on Spanish
to understand that he was telling me that while I was wintering, he
was summering and wanting to spend time swimming and not writing to
old farts! I miss that sweet, brave kid!
I'm not even sure I was speaking about you when I wrote the message.
The fact is that we get this stuff all the time no matter what. If we
don't use passwords, someone says we ought to and why aren't we and
carries on as if it's his business how other people post. If we do use
passwords, there's going to be at least 1 person who cannot possibly
figure it out on his own. Even if, like Bill often did, he writes it
out plainly! No, seriously, I've seen people ask Bill for a password
when he clearly stated what it was in the '0' file!
Sometimes I wonder if some of these people think we should show up at
their house and jerk them off while they look at whatever we've
uploaded! I mean, would it hurt them to ask politely? Would it hurt
them if, instead of demanding something, they just asked if someone
could help direct them to the info or clue or whatever? But, no,
that's far too easy! They come in with the attitude that the world
owes them, and it's their divine right to get whatever it is they so
desire.
And while you might think that posters are adults, I would have
thought that the people downloading stuff were adults too. But they
don't always act like it. And after a while, a poster gets a bit put
off because no matter how much he does or how he does it, he can never
do enough or can never do it to suit someone or other. And they're
just people, too. I used to think a bit like you: why are you suddenly
going to get pissed off and decide that it's your ball and you're
taking it home? If you're trying to share it, why don't you make it
easy for the people with whom you want to share it to get it? But
lately all I see is people saying all kinds of nasty things.
As a salesman, I was once told that when you get a satisfied customer,
he generally tells 2 people about it. When you piss a customer off, he
tells about 7. It works about the same way for posters. For every 2
times someone thanks them and shows them some love and appreciation,
they get bullshit from 7 others! I didn't stay in sales! Although I
didn't have many customers who were unhappy with me and some came to
me and paid more for stuff because I did make them happy! One family
waited for me to come back from lunch because their little boy would
not let them replace the fried VCR unless they bought it from me! It's
always amazed me what a little love and kindness means to some people.
That's another sweet little one I miss, though I guess he must be
nearly 30 by now!
I am sorry if you thought that I was just angry with you. And yes, I
realize that my manners were less than perfect, but I thought that
maybe if some people saw what it was like to get such rudeness that
they might think twice before doing it again!
I guess that's what I get for thinking.
