Before you consider scanning or creating your own files to print you will need
to get the basics down first. Bed levelling, filament characteristics, How to
load/unload filaments, using a slicer, hot end maintenance to name but a few.
If yo decide you would like to 3D scan an existing ( smallish) object later on
then there is a cheap ( relatively) way of doing so and works rather well.
There is turntable you can print with a handle and gears for turning it. All
you need is a phone that lets you take pictures using your headphone's
pause/vol controls. There is a cam built into the turntable that presses on the
pause/vol control and takes a photo every few degrees. You then stitch them all
together using FREE software. the .stl files for the turntable are FREE also.
There are thousands of FREE .stl files out there for you to print. The slicer I
use is one of the best and is also FREE. I use a FREE 3D cad programme to make
"bespoke" .stl files of things that I can't get hold of. Your imagination is
the only limit here plus you'll need a LOT of patience.
Visit www.thingiverse.com to get an Idea of what's out there. It's best to
join and again it's free. If you decide to take the plunge I'll be here to help
you through the learning phase.
