You (LMM) are now posting using the tools and knowledge gained from
this group. Taking care to post in a way that will ensure the broadest
range of people will be able to download it.
You are displaying generosity, skill AND a willingness to post
considerately.
Others are not, DESPITE the Tools and the information being readily
available for all.
Good posting is not a secret society with a secret handshake.
Huge posts, either posted as one lump (OBZ) or "disguised" by posting
in a million pieces, does not mean everyone got them successfully.
It is not hard to learn to post using the information available for
the different mediums. But still, people just chuck the files in here
like they are trying out for the pitcher's position for some second
rate baseball team.
Hard, fast and with little regard for the catcher.
It's NOT about who posts and who doesn't, regardless of what the
disgruntled moochers say.
It's NOT about ridiculing those who don't know how to post, so they
don't.
People who post in here are not posting just to the requester. They
are posting to the WORLD.
It IS about who is able to post CORRECTLY.
Not many are.
I've been offline for a while (just Life getting in the way) and to
come back and sift through the rubble looking for signs of surviving
posts has been an interesting exercise, considering the information
about Posting that is readily available to this group.
I can see only a handful of people that have any idea of what posting
is about. You are one that did try to learn how to post.
Enthusiastically too, I might add!! It was fun, yes?? The outcome
outweighing any learning headaches??
Why others think they don't have time to do this is beyond me.
The newbies are generous, and it is all very exciting sharing and
receiving. But eventually you have to pay the Piper and learn how to
post if everyone wants this group to grow.
You can drive without a licence, sure.
It don't make one an Indy 500 driver.
Knowledge is disappearing. This is not a Yahoo group.
This group requires a certain amount of work (learning) to keep it
alive and progressive.
The times are a-changing, and we have to keep up.
No. Posting one huge file is not correct.
No. Splitting that huge file into 2212 pieces and pretending it is
split is not good practice either.
No. Using that Powerpost abortion of a program is not good practice.
You might as well put a sign out saying "good intentions, but no idea
- and don't write me about it while I'm feeling so generous".
The group limps along regardless. But the "dumbing down" is becoming
obvious.
No one wants to help themselves to knowledge anymore. Knowledge that
will help the Poster, not just the downloaders.
Good posting saves time, saves headaches. For everyone.
People should try it, they might like it!!
