They were professionally re-mastered by the BBC so blame them if you must.Some
people like the re-mastered version and some, for the reasons you stated, don't.
It's horses for courses and all that.
If I ever come accross a re-mastered copy without cropping I'll post it. I won't
be posting either version any time soon though, unless I have a good enough
reason to do so of course.
