PAUL McCARTNEY OFFERS A BEHIND-THE-SCENES TOUR OF HIS NEW ALBUM, DRIVING RAIN
Paul McCartney, who is a big fan of radio, has gotten in the habit of producing a radio special whenever he
releases a new album. On November 13th, McCartney releases Driving Rain-his 30th album since leaving The
Beatles. And, once again, with the help of MJI Broadcasting, a two-hour McCartney special will air across the
United States and around the world the week of November 18th.
McCartney recently sat down with Sal Cirrincione, MJI's Director of Rock Programming and Specials, for an
in-depth interview about Driving Rain, his life and the future. In regard to his album, McCartney says, "It
seems quite positive. Even though it deals with some sort of difficult things and some sadness occasionally,
I don't think that's a bad thing." McCartney spoke candidly about his life since Linda McCartney's death,
fiancée Heather Mills, touring, the attacks on America, and how Ringo Starr played a role in picking the
album's first single, "From a Lover to a Friend." "We were in LA in February 2001 recording the original
tracks and Ringo and Barbara were in town. So Heather and me went over to see them. And during the evening I
brought my CD. Ringo just sat there and he listened to them all." After "From a Lover to a Friend" finished,
Ringo told Paul, "Well that's my favorite. You know me." Paul picks up the story. "I hadn't really picked it
out particularly as a stand-out track. But then when the record company started to listen to it and other
people, they said, 'Oh, I really like that song.' So it's become the first single. So I guess young Mr.
Richard Starkey made the choice."

of Band on the Run (which won the gold medal for "Best Music Special" at the 1999 International Radio Awards)
