No both Glenn who represents David Hamilton and his book images and
ourselves who own the US film copyrights are very real people. Eons ago
Dr Stragelove contacted Glenn and ourselves and obtained permission to
post a limited set of our media in the group. He did so with our films twice
a year.
I did not know him in any way personally, but he did respect our position and
why Glenn and ourselves allowed his posting but only in specific ways. We
have to carefully guard against harvesting. We often find Russian webmasters
and idiots on Ebay who collect images from the newsgroups and pretend they
are public domain. This creates a lot of expense and hassles and over the
years we reduced this to a minimum. Strangelove was very good about
seeing and reporting piracy to us and we respected his help by giving him
a green light to post films and images per our instructions as we are not
copyright nazis and believe in the usenet and internet unlike many of the
other copyright holders and see the groups as fans not enemies.
If someone steps forward from the group am sure we would work with them
as we did Strangelove as long as they understand our issues and assist
us with avoiding postings of items that create harvesting. Nothing makes
us sadder then being in conflict with the usenet itself and the DMCA stuff.
We only wish to focus our efforts on commercial infringment as we do
believe in the usenet and internet as a win-win equation.
